Haneul Yi
Born in Korea and raised in Africa, Haneul Yi (he/him) is a Korean Canadian multi-instrumentalist, actor-musician, & music director. He is a graduate of Sheridan's Musical Theatre Performance program and the recipient of the 2021 Jon Kaplan Award. Recent credits include A Year with Frog & Toad (Capitol), Alice in Wonderland (Soulpepper), Once (Thousand Islands Playhouse), Spring Awakening (Theatre Sheridan) and Aqsarniit (Charlottetown Festival Young Company). Haneul is most grateful for this wonderful Soulpepper Academy cohort and his partner Liz for supporting his journey.
Where are you in your artistic journey at the moment? What are you excited about now that you are accepted into the Academy? What do you hope to learn during your time at Soulpepper?
I was trained as an actor, and went to school for Musical Theatre Performance. But through the recent years, I've realized that my first love for storytelling & expression comes from my affinity for music. This is why I am most excited for this year's Academy. I look forward to deeply examine the music with the lens of theatre, and to break and bend the rules that come along with it.
